Methodology

Data sources

Wealth Tech Navigator favours primary, free, attributable sources. The catalog is illustrative — not an exhaustive census — and every figure below can be traced back to a public filing or a named provider.

SEC EDGAR

On annual / quarterly filing
Revenue, employees, legal name, fiscal year

US-registered filers only. Matched by CIK / SEC CRD number when available.

GLEIF

Daily reference data
Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), parent entity, HQ country

Used to confirm corporate parents (e.g. Black Diamond → SS&C) and headquarters jurisdiction.

SEC Form ADV

Annual amendments
Registered investment advisers, AUM, client counts

Powers the wealth-firm dataset and AUM figures on firm pages.

Crunchbase

Event-driven
Funding rounds, founding year, status

Disclosed rounds only. Private / undisclosed vendors show as Private.

Short descriptions, ownership history

Pulled selectively to backfill descriptions; never used for financials.

Manual editorial overrides

Continuous
Anything above (where primary sources are wrong or stale)

Catalog team can pin a corrected value (parent, country, AI-impact rationale) that survives re-imports.

What we don’t do

  • Resell paid third-party datasets (no Pitchbook, no S&P licensing).
  • Scrape vendor websites for financial fields — too noisy, too stale.
  • Publish AI-impact ratings without a written rationale on the sub-capability page.

Spot something wrong? Open a sub-capability and use the “Report issue” affordance — the catalog team triages within a week.
